His Gaol Visitor

They remained friendly, and while he was awaiting trial, Mrs. Plumbly wes one of his few visitors in Brix-ion Prison, He nas been blackmailed by Women over a number of years, Mrs. Plumbly stated in an interview.

l know of one case, she added, where a woman was living in a luxurious suite with her children, and blackmailed him for £2,000 when she produced her husband. In another instance he was paying a woman £15 a week, Still another woman bleck-mailed him over a period of 11 years.

His own living expenses amounted to about £3,000 a year, on top of which he had to meet all the demands made on him. It would be impossible 20 say how many thousands of pounds he nas paid away in this way.

Soon after my breach of promise action he telephoned me and again started to take me out to dinners. We would go to the best restaurants in the West-end, and he was exceedingly generous, but I can honestly say he never gave me anything, I have nearly been in the gutter through his shrewd business dealings with me.

When I met him recently in the Official Receiver's office he looked terrible. He had aged a great deal and was not the man I once knew.

He said he had only a shilling on him when he was arrested.
