A Self-Contained Market

A most convenient thing it is tò find all that you wish beneath one roof. I cannot think of anything for the table that you could not buy at Messrs. Dombey & Son's, Lid., 803 Bubbling Well Road. A striking feature is the cleanliness of the place—there, plain to the eye, isa well-filled butchery, but it is by sight only and not by scent that it is apprehended. Messrs. Dombey's selected animals are killed under supervision. Tsingtao beef is a speciality, so also Peiping and Chusan ducks. Vegetables, American and native, are fresh and attractive.

Of imported goods Messrs, Dombey are proud to say that they carry the biggest selection east of Suez. It is delightful to a greedy person—or let us rather say a gourmet—io have the opportunity of browsing round among these pleasant things. Think, for instance, of a little jar of Chedlet cheese and orange—what an unusual mind its composer must have had! Caviare—black and red} Gentleman's Relish (Ratum Peperium)—most elegant of titles for most elegant of pastes, calling up a vision of old county families gathering round the tea-table after a hard day's hunting'; Peak Frean's caviar puffs will lend a finish to your small chow tray. These appear to be wonderful little shapes in puff pastry which, hotted and filled, would lend an air to your small chow which they may not have had before. Or if we are looking for heartiness, why not a good plate of soup made with American black-eye or white Navy beans?
