Wenchow, Feb. 28.
To-day. at last the city has received its first little taste of air bombing. Siren warnings were heard at intervals since the commencement of hostilities, though few, if any, since Christmas. Then three days ago there were two warnings in the one day, three the next and again this morning three, the last one introducing the bombing.
One is fervently glad not to have to report any of the ghastly horrors that the inhabitants have learned to expect as the normal result of modern air-bombing. The six raiders confined their attentions entirely to the airfield outside the south gate, dripping 48 bombs on the field itself, and it was not the fault of the airmen that a man and his daughter belonging to a neighbouring farmhouse were too scared to remain under cover, and so were killed, Three are said to have been wounded by flying fragments.
