Moment Not Yet Ripe For China Mediation

Berlin Correspondent of "The Times" Gives Views London, Oct. 18.

"The moment is not ripe for discussing the question of a collaboration between the four Great Powers with a view to restoring peace in the Far East" the Berlin correspondent of "The Times" reported today.

"The fall of Canton might, it is thought, bring about a new situation in which a European mediation could be effective but the possibilities of a mediation on agreed lines seem limited by the existence of the anti-Com-added. intern Pact," the correspondent

Referring to the. European situation, the writer did not think that it had grown any worse or that it would do so in the near future. Substantiating this view is the fact that the British Ambassador to Germany, Sir Nevile Henderson, will leave the German capital today to spend two or three weeks in England.

However, he warned, the development of the situation cannot be considered as very optimistic.

"It seems, from views gathered tu German circles, that the British reaction to the Munich settlement does not, for the moment, promise any success in a future Four-Power collaboration," he continued. "Annoyance continues to be expressed at British rearmament and hints to be given that the Reich will take measures to prevent the present balance of European armaments from being upset."—Havas.
