Republic Celebrated

Warsaw, Nov. 1.

A huge Ukrainian demonstration took place in Lwow today, on the Occasion of the celebration of the twentieth anniversary of the foundation of the short-lived Ukrainian Republic.

After a religious ceremony at the St. Jur Greek-Orthodox Church, 1,500 young men demonstrated in the Streets, shouting anti-Polish slogans. The police broke the demonstration but the youths gathered again, a few minutes later, on the Market place and marched past the City Hall stoning several windows of this building. Six demonstrators were arrested.

Students of the Polytechnical School staged a counter-demonstration and the situation remains tense.

Police detachments are patrolling the streets of the town and the neighbouring villages.—Havas.
