Senate Approves, House Rejects Huge American Tax Measure

Goes to Conference; Administration Planning to-

Carry Fight There President Roosevelt Calm Washington, Apr. 9.

The Senate today approved the $5,331,000,000 Tax Bill by a voice vote. It was expected that the bill would be sent to conference because of its wide differences from the House version.

An amendment to the bill to remove from exemption future issues of Federal securities, initiated by Senator William E. Borah, Republican of Idaho, was adopted by a vote of 34 to 33. Senator Borah's amendment, it was indicated, opens a vast new source for Federal revenue.

Another amendment sponsored by Senator Bennett Champ Clark, De-morat of Missouri, which provided that all securities on the exemption list be taxed, was defeated by a vote of 41 to 43.

Meanwhile, despite the ease with which the undistributed profits tax clause was deleted from the bill, high officials of the Administration planned to carry the fight to the conference.
