An Emphatic Disclaimer

To the Editor of the "Nosu-Curxa Dau News"

Sim—Permit me to express through the medium of your esteemed paper: gratitude to all your correspondents who for the past few days have been valiantly trying to elucidate the hard Jot of Russian emigres in Shanghai and to defend their good name from Uanecessarily harsh criticism. Thane Mr. Mane Greene's timely letter will help to bring forth even a greater number of ardent champions for our cause and thus will once and for all establish international community.

'Remembering that you, Sir, strongly disapprove of clergymen who. venture into politics, I still hope you will as courteously' as ever accept this letter for publication. Forasmuch as my parishioners are looking forward to my guidance in all ways life, T think T am justified in expressing my views on this most! important question. Besides, "this etter will answer Mr. Manx Gnezxe's challenge for Russian organizations to come forth and express their attitude.

First of all, 1 do believe, that the Jodious meeting at the Astor House Was sponsored and staged by irresponsible elements who are acting on behalf of a certain nation, and we, [Russians, regard those elements with deep sense of mistrust and repugnance. I am happy to state that absolutely no one of Russian Pro-{estants participated in this notorious gathering, and everyone of those who discussed it with me was most Jemphatically against it. As a matter fof fact, many asked me to convey Their views in my letter to. the press.

T further wish to state that Russian Protestants expressly asked me to state that our community consists of Russian patriots, and as such we shall always be friends to democratic nations, With a deep sense of horror and repugnance we have watched the Bloody" ventures of totalitarian nations in Abyssinia, in Spain and in China, and we definitely do not wish fo entrust the future of our fatherland to fascists or imperialists. We fare emigres from Russia but it does mean that we are ready to make 2 deal with our deadly enemies in order to overthrow the existing Gov-ferment of Russia. Some 150 million Russian people have established this Government, and inasmuch as it is good for them we will not try to Undermine their work. We may not agree with them, but we cannot ever consciously plunge them Tinto a fiery and bloody inferno of a Civil war, just because there are Some easy pickings for us in the future.

Besides these very strong considerations against our participations fat that odious meeting—it seems to, we owe loyalty to the Chinese Nationalist Government. Having lived in this country for a number Jot years we must not forget that we enjoyed Chinese hospitality and Hiverty to work and earn our living It" seems fo me it is, therefor shameful and degrading to participate in-any activities that are enleulated to overthrow the lawful Government jof China, Foreigners sympathise with China because of all. the horrors she has been and is now going through. How many more reasons then have we the Russians, to avm~ pathize with our Chinese brothers! JAnd, to our shame. ive must admit that there are some "White Russians" who are not so white where their Jconseience and gratitude is cancer ed, But not. all of us! 'The vast majority is and ever shall be tr and loyal to human and democratic principles, We pray and hope that China' will emerge' victorious from this horrible war for her liberty. and we are sure that the Chinese people win not place us all on the same footing with some moral degenerates: who act at the bidding of our common enemy.

'A. J. Leonmoy, no. Minister Ruselan Protestant Church.
