An Old Grievance

'A correspondent privately, draws attention once again to the un-Pleasant' aggressiveness of, the' followers of certain profession in the. public thoroughfares of the Settlement, 'The chief points to which he suggests oficial attention Tight be drawn are in Avenue Edward Vit east of Thibet Road and on. the Settlement side of the 'Avenue and in Nanking Road near the tig' departmental stores. Whether "aggressiveness" is the term, is a matter of opinion. Yet it is frequently recorded that the practice of open solicitation is far foo evident in streets which are in the way of a large proportion of the ordinary passenger traffic. The problem is dificult, Mere prudery ig inappropriately brought into its discussion. The broad method of approach seems to be by consider tion of the convenience of the general public. It certainly is not convenient to permit these damsels to blazon their unhappy intentions all and sundry in well-frequented thoroughfares. Perhaps the Police, amid their many preoccupations, can successfully limit their preventive efforts to this modest aim.
