French Internal Instability

British political leaders are increasingly apprehensive over the unstable internal situation in France as shown by the number of strikes now under way, and the threat of a general strike which might lead to the downfall of M, Edouard Daladier, the Premier.

The "Daily Mail," commenting on this, said the "French Ministers will certainly urge a close defensive alliance with Britain, but however earnest their desir sor such cooperation, they must be aware that such an alliance could be fair and effective only if backed by a fully-developed industrial and financial strength of both partners."

Similarly, the "Daily Telegraph" criticized the lack of ce-operation by French labour circles in making sacrifices for national recovery.

"For those who are hopeful of the efficacy of ce-operation between Britain and France, the present French situation is discouraging, and even disquieting," the newspaper declared.—United Press.
