In the course of his remarks he said that' "while the occasion was truly asad. one yet. there was "an element of Joy in itas it enabled us to express in a tangible manner our appreciation of Mr. Ross who during {his sojourn here had seen many changes. Graves had disappeared ww town had. grown upon the property. of the Arm had' been extended by the erection of commodious godowns, and the Wwellsknown, hospitable "house on Peach Flower Ridgo—n house In which boundless hospitality had been dispensed to residents, officers and men of the Royal Navy and passers-by. Fond of company Mr. and Mrs. Ross were at their best when spend: ing themselves in the "service of others.

"In the public life of the communlity Mr. Ross was ever ready to do his bit and to his energy and fore-! sight we owe the splendid recreation ground. He has left behind a visible monument to. his memory in the beautiful cemetery which was but a wilderness when he took charge of it. During all his time here he has been a credit to his firm which he: has served so faithfully. Always puting business before pleasure he lost, no opportunity of advancing the claims of the "Red Funnel', and in! all his business dealings he' was one! of nature's gentlemen.

"While we take leave of Mr. Ross we also think of Mrs. Ross a queen among hostesses and a good Samarijan whose good works were known few outside the recipe-n's themselves. We wish Mr. Ross God Speed jand God's Blessing and. ask him to accept this loving cup which bears the inscription Presented to Andrew Ross, Esquire, by grateful friends in Tehang in recognition of his many services rendered to the community Jduring 27 years. 1907-94."
