[shanghai Scottish, said:— have much pleasure in my Jeapacity of Chairman of the Muni-Jeipal Council and Civil Commandant fof the S.V.C. in presenting members fof the Shanghai 'Scottish Company with long-service medals. These medals stand for twelve years' ser~ vice, and sometimes very strenuous service. Th reality, it amounts to faimost a war medal, because it is doubtful whether any recipient has fever had or will ever have a medal presented to him without his having taken part in a mobilisation of the [Corps, which amounts to active ser~ vice.
"Amongst the recipients, T see Mr. lo. M. Bain. Tt is particularly ap-Ipropriate that he should receive the medal to-day, because he took a prominent part in the formation of the Scottish Company.
"As you are aware, the Corps year, under the new. Commandant, has undergone considerable alteration and the Brigade organisation has been. Brought into force. To-day, the Scottish Company stands as one [Company of "A" Battalion, and it very appropriate that both the Commanding Offcer, Major Barraclough, fand his Adjutant, Capt. Lamb, are here to support me on the first medal parade of the mew formation."
Concluding with a compliment to the Company on their strength and their.very smart appearance, Mr. /Arnhold then presented Long-Service Medals to Sergt. C. M, Bain, late of jthe Reserve Company, and Cpl. Oxley Cumming. the oldest, serving member of the Scottish, and Lieut IE. B. Blaikie. The Company respond Jed with three rousing cheers for Mr. Jand Mrs. MeDonald and Mr. Arnhold, "The guests were further entertained with an. excellent eof [Scottish airs and light music by the "NE.
