Several other surprises came when the scores finally were announced, 0, Cumming, playing his own course, was unable to hold third poslton, dropping to Atth, fourth place doing held by two, W. H. C. Huggett and J, B. Logan." A bad first card, with a score of 84, put Cumming out of the running for third—position, which was taken by Ricketts, who, with cards of 75 and 78, showing considerable steadiness, moved up from the fifth, position, which he held on Saturday. J. B. Lagan, who was tenth on Saitrday, moved up strong-Ay, also with cards of 75 and 78, to tle for fourth place with W. H. C. Hoggett, who remained as was the day before.
W. Harrison, the previous champion, and A. R. Blinko, who were ex-ceted to put up very stiff competition for the leading positions, took sixth and twentieth, respectively, the later finding Hungjao very dificult yesterday, being able to do only 82 and 88 inthe two rounds, The racing at the S.RC, Sixth Extra Meeting, on Saturday, was not a all-round exciting as that of last week, but it was far from being dull, and two events alone made. it an afternoon well spent. One showed Boston Drill to be every bit the fine pony he had been acclaimed in train ing and the other gave a view of Rochester in the form that had been expected of him in the spring but which hitherto he had failed to. produce when racing.
Boston Drill ran an electrifying race. Right from the barrier—which ow, incidentally, is being operated by Mr. E. H. MeMichael, who is managing to secure a measure of obed fence and ce-operation from the Jockeys which unfortunately has not been the lot of all starters on the three local courses—Maitland shat Boston Drill out to a lead of several lengths, and, though this was cut down a trifle along the back-straight, no pony actually was moved up within Aghting distance of him and he turned into the home straight still with a handsome lead. Just before the turn, Castle-ribbon cracked on full speed and he made a gallant effort to get on terms. At the members' stand, he had drawn up to Boston Drill's quarters, but then he slackened perceptibly and, though Boston Drill did not appear to be able to produce any better than he was doing, he held on to beat the favourite by a neck, with Blue Peter far away in third.
The Record Cara The card for the record breaking score over the new Hungjao course lay-out, made by Hunter during the morning, is of considerable interest. The first nine holes showed a score of 4, 4,9, 6, 4, 4, 3, 4, 3, for 35. The second' ning holes were played in 3, 5, 4,2 4, 5, 3, 5, 5, for 36 At the' close of the day's competi tion Lady Brenan, who had been an interested spectator with Sir John Brenan, presented the prizes.
