To the Editor of the jantu-Cuina Dany News!
'Sin—With reference to "Radio Novice's" letter of the 20th inst, In case} he did not listen in to Sunday night's Empire Broadcast, transmissions 2], and 3, the BBC.' announced that they had adopted the 31 metres as the wavelength in future for these transmissions. Whether this is the] direct result of his letter Home he will be able to determine. In mak-the comparison with Zeeson's Programme ai the over Tooks the fact that thiy latter station] Droadeasts direct to the Far Eas, whereas the BBC. Empire broad-coe: Is meant for ths E~pire only, Buitishers resident it. Shassnai are festunate in being able to pick certain transmissions. We cam however, grumble about reception, suggest "improvements, demand ceritiize anything concerning the} broadcast, Shanghai is not a part of the Empire. Until this matter is taken by our" patriotic societies, tye British Residents Association and by the Corr Seer. of the Royal Empir2 Society. we cannot hope for any} changes, or for a direct reception.
The BBC. have received many] extracts from logs kept by Empire} Programme enthusiasts and their engineers are always very pleased to} receive them, but until Shanghai isl included on their map, there is litte} for them to do. They are certainly not in need of technical advice from novices and I would suggest that we are urged to write direct to the BBC. we should take great care in the composition of letters criticizing or condemning the Empire Broadcast, Our position in Shanghai is a delicate one, and we can only ask for very kind consideration. That wel should unanimously welcome _the Satisfactory reception of the Empire Programme does not need "stressing, but T think individual letters will not]
0 far to bring about this much de-Sired result.
In common with hundreds of other short wave enthusiasts I agree' that Zeeson is to-day coming over. perfectly, with Paris an easy second, and Tam sure that the time is noi far distant when we shall be able to sit back every evening and listen to our Home programme.
