Unsuccessful Effort of 90,000 to Effect Junction with Szechuan Communists Canton, Oct. 28.
Swooping down from southern Kiangsi upon the northern Kuangtun:, border a few days, ago, 90,000 communists made a desperate but unsuccessful effort to penetrate into Kung-tung with the object of making for southern Hunan to effect a junction with the Reds in Szechua Defeated by the Government troops in engagements at Chungshek, An yuan and Anshik, the communists are retreating in the direction of Yutu, the communist stronghold in southern "Kiangsi, with the Government troops in hot pursuit.
'Although the menace to the peavineial border districts has yet to be completely eliminated, the Government troops have the' situation well in hand and no grave developments are expected.
