To the Editor of the "NogrH-CHINA DaILY' NEWS!
Sim—On a vacant space of land between Jessfield Park and Park View Apartments (36 Brenan Road) two factories of the "Bamboo hut" type have been erected right in a residential sector.
The workmen of these factories, as well as coolies of some native shops in the vicinity, are using this vacant piece of land, for committing nuisance day and "ght to such an extent that an even stream of liquid manure runs into Brenan Road; not to mention the stench of it.
Although the above-mentioned nuisance is a public offence according to the laws of our Model Settlement, yet the Chinese constables on duty Go not even seem to notice it or try to stop it, as they are too busy chatting with each other at the Park entrance.
Apparently the authorities concerned have neither power nor interest to remedy this situation and I am, therefore, wondering, if they are justified in continuing to collect the SIN. taxes from the unfortunate people who are compelled, under the [ed cireui-stances, to live out lore.
