Chinese Yochow Offensive

Chungking, Dec. 19.

The Chinese started an offensive in' the region of Yochow, according to the "Ta Kung Pao" today. The Chinese have advanced as far as six kilometres from Yochow, the report claims which adds that the Japanese are fortifying their defence positions in and outside Yochow. The Y

Kung Pao" opines that the number of Japanese at Yochow is too small to resist the Chinese so that they will. have either to retreat or to receive reinforcements within the next few days.

Fuither reports speak of attacks by Chinese irregulars on Hwangchow, east of Hankow. Details are lacking but the Chinese claim that the irregulars reached the vicinity of the town and that the Japanese had to ask for reinforcements, The Japanese troop concentrations on the West River, west of Canton, are giving more freedom of action to the Chinese north and east of the Kwangtung capital.

The expected Japanese push into Kwangsi province has not yet taken place, the only indication of such intentions being Japanese troop ĉoncentrations near Samshui—Trans+

Ocean.
