KULING ESTATE

Reorganized Council To the Editor of the "Nontu-Cuixa Dany News! late there has been many laloments and reports regarding Use Droposed rendition of the administr tion of the Kuling Estate to the [Lushan Administrative Bureau many fof which, think, were either premature or incorrect. May 1, there= fore Sir, he permitted to state a few facts and also express my hope for the future?

Years. ago the Kuling Estate had 1 own police, under the direct con tive Bureau with the result that a good many regulations, sanitary, etc, were impossible of enforcement and that a good increase of thetis and fires had occurred, there being no sincere and whole-hearted operation between the two bodies. With the desire and hope for a bet ter Kuling, the landrenters at their last annual meeting passed a resolu tion empowering the Council 10 negotiate with the Kiangsi Provincial Government's representative with a view to complying with the fater's request for rendition, Now, the title deed of the Kuling Estate being field by a Britisher, the British Consul General of Hankow is to represent the Kuling Council and in Sir Merrick Hewlett, T think the landrenters have a most able representative, and the Chinese a most understanding and sympathetic friend. This led to the mis-statements that only Britons were in the Council. "As a matter of fact, during the fast few years at least, the Councillors comprise of men ' and Nomen of different nationalities, viz, Americans, Britons, Swedes, Chinese, German and Dutch, In the placing of the Estate ad~ ministrative office and all public ofices under the control of the Lushan Administrative Bureau, I atn sure that the interest of the Estate debenture-holders was safeguarded.

Instead of an information commit= tee as reported, I think that there will be a reorganized council, which will have six Chinese members to [be elected. by the Chinese landrenters oF appointed by the Lushan Administrative Bureau and five foreign members of different nationalities to be meetings. elected by the foreign landrenters'

In the passing of the old council of the Kuling Estate I think one important fact should be mentioned.

Whatever shortcomings the council might have had in the past, it has Mussolini their prizes. built one of the best, if not the test, mothers have together health and summer resort in Chins 'With the new. arrangement, with always a good and able Director of the Lushan Administrative Bureau, is: hoped that, in the near future 'Kuling will not only be a wonderful summer resort, but a most beautiful winter resort as well' with all modern conveniences with places for skiing, ice-skating,—toggoganing making it the "Switzearland of Chin not only in name but also in fact.

I fervently hope that the Kiangsi Provincial Government, under the care of which Kuling is going to be, will spare nothing to accomplish this.
