The proposed aviation programme s said to provide for the ordering of several thousand planes in 1939 and 1940 and for the training of 100,000 pilots and 125,000 mechanics.
The programme for the Army also aims at general strengthening of the U. S. national defence system. It foresees the reinforcement of the artillery and anti-aircraft divisions and for increased supplies of ammunition. It provides for an increase in the size of the Army.
Projected plans for the Navy will also call for the construction of two 45,000-ton battleships and probably about twenty other warships of lesser displacement.
Other measures include the putting aside of $30,000,000 for the training of skilled workers and of another $25,000,000 for the constitution of stocks of minerals which the U. S. does not produce in sufficient quantities.
The authorities added today that the credits of $100,000,000 for the Army and $150,000,000 for the Navy will form but a part of the sums necessary for the realization of all the plans projected by the State—Havas.
