To the Editor of the "Nontu-Cura Daty News"
Sin-—Now that we' are in the throes of a Municipal Election and we have great hopes that the newly jelected councillors will do all that has been promised for the good of the community at large, T would just like to point out my little grievance, shared by the majority of mothers in the Eastern District, that is, the inadequate school for' foreign children.
"We have no choice of school, there only being one, the Public School in Yulin Road. At the most there are 60 children, and the school consists of an old-fashioned dwelling house, heated by stoves, which make the rooms too hot, and no modern conveniences, which is bad at Yhis late date when such a thing fast disappearing in Shanghai, Surely we are due something better, seeing we pay municipal rates and also pay the same amount of school fees as charged for other schools where the rooms are airy and there are modern conveniences. Lately there has been an outbreak of Dip-theria and Mumps and there is very little chance for other children es: leaping this when ventilation is '80 bad."
Surely this matter is a little more important than all the talkt of keeping on the Municipal Orchestra. little less money spent there, and perhaps the Wayside District "might have a better school.
There 1s certainly some contrast between the new Chinese School in Wayside Road and the present one in Yulin Road.
