Baseball Opener At Race Course

Amateurs Swamped 21-1 in Merry-go-round Against U.S.S. Tulsa

More of a merry-go-round than a baseball game developed yesterday when the 05,5. Tulsa circled the bases for 21 runs in the season's opener at the Race Course against the Shanghai Amateurs who scored Only one run. The sailors banged Out fourteen hits but also took advantage of the Amateurs' eleven errors to pile up their huge total, Manager Ivy Riddick used the game as a means of trying out all his material and sent 24 men into the game. Of these,.the veteran pitcher and fielder, Al Huebner, proved outstanding as usual by getting three hits in his three trips to the plate, batting a better average than anyone else in the game, A good crowd turned out to see the tussle and were not disappointed from the standpoint of action around the bases. The sailors showed good fielding ability, making only three miscues while the Amateurs were having all kinds of trouble.

Mazaway pitched the entire game for the sailors while Huebner, Kam, Thomas and Gore shared the mound duties for the Amateurs, Tulsa Moore, Wood. Vetkoetter, Verbic, Miles, rf Koslosky, 25.
