Reserve Electrical Equipment Needed Britain Prepared for Emergencies of War

SPECIAL TO THE "N.CD.N."

London, Jan. 4.

British electricity undertakings have decided that, beyond ordinary measures for air raid precautions, the provision of a national. reserve of switch-gear transformers would be the most practical measure of precaution against a national defence emergency. Incidental equipment would also be provided, and would be held readily available for installation where required.

The reserve equipment would be under the administration of the Central Electricity Board. The cost Of these measures is estimated at £3,000,000 sterling, and the Ministry of Transport have intimated that Parliament will be asked to undertake liability for half of this -total.

The Central Electricity Board is being authorized to borrow the remainder.
