US, Missionaries to Nanking

Japanese Give Passes Following Washington — Protest to Tokyo; No British Applications Yet|"

Amznican missionaries have already started to return to Shanghai, June 4.

Nanking and other cities' in the Japanese-occupied areas of the Shanghai hinterland, the "North China Daily News" learned yesterday, Father J. F. Kearney, S.J, of the Apostolic Vicariate of Nanking (Chinese Clergy), left Shanghai yesterday for the fallen capital of China, and Mrs. Ernst Forster and six others were to have left this city at 4.30 o'clock this morning.

It is understood that a number of British missionaries also contemplate returning to their field of work, but an enquiry at HIM, Consulate-General yesterday elicited the fact that none has asked the consular authorities to approach the Japanese authorities for the necessary pass; it is reported, however, that the Salvation Army is considering sending one of its officers up-country.
