Preparations for the reconstruction of the Astronomical Observatory on Purple Mountain in Nanking this year, anticipating a total solar eclipse in Central China in 1941, have been completed by the Central China Cultural Committee, the "Tairiku Shimpo" reported yesterday.

All equipment, including a Ger man-made telescope of 60 centimetres in diameter, was carried away by the Kuomintang troops when they retreated from the former capital in 1037. A new Japanese manufactured telescope, as well as other equipment will be brought from Japan for the new scientific establishment, the paper said.
