Castellon, June 16.
With the! collapse of Republican resistance in their last stronghold in the north-west corner of the city, the Nationalists early this morning com-Hleted the capture of Castellon de la Plana.
Wild Scenes of rejoicing were witnessed everywhere as Gen. Franco's troops marched into the city. The predominant emotion was gratitude that food had finally arrived. A loaf of bread which Reuter's special correspondent had with him was torn from his hands by hungry. citizens, who had not tasted bread for several days. Food lorries were sent from every province in Nationalist Spain as soon as the city was captured.
A tour of Castellon revealed that the port was honeycombed by elaborate subterranean air-raid shelters, in which the inhabitants had hitherto led a troglodyte existence.
In preparation for the Nationalist capture of the port, many women passed their time in altering the red, yellow and purple of the Republican flag to the red, yellow and red of Gen. Franco's colours.—Reuter, Rome, June 16. The official list of Italian losses in Spain since February 1937 was released here today, and alleged that the total amount of Italian legionaries killed in Spain since that date was only 2,055.—Havas,
