The raid was terrible as the planes seemed to be dropping bombs almost indiscriminately, destroying over 100 houses. None of the mission buildings suffered however. A house adjoining the local offices of Arnhold Ca, was completely demolished whilst the home of Mr. Rose, local manager of the firm, which was next door to the ruined building, escaped damage. Several coolies were killed on the company's wharf, however.
A direct hit was also made on the vast office but the damage was slight and only one person sustained minor injuries.
At the East gate, a little woman, whose arm had to be amputated, was the sole survivor of a family of five. A family of four was also killed near the river.
