Foreign Mission Land Leases

Chinese Law Must be Observed in Interior In response {o an inquiry from the Nanking, Oct. 8 Honan provincial authorities, the Ministry "of Interior, dealing' with Tand leases by foreigners. says that foreign missionaries working in the Interior must observe the Provisional Regulations Governing the Lease of Land or Houses by Foreign Missions in the Interior. No other res-frictions on them are provided for by existing laws and ordinances.

Any foreign church in the interior wishing to establish a branch church in another district must report its plans beforehand to the local authorities, so that adequate protection may be given. A request "f the foreign missions for the issue of a proclamation for their protection may even 'Torchi's own people' would turn against the Chinese, if it came fo a fight; in the second place a defeat of Pailingmiao would merely throw them into the arms of the Japanese straight away.
