HONGKONG'S GOVERNOR

Sir Andrew Caldecott's appointment to the Governorship of Hongkong in succession to Sir William Peel accords with original expectations which were however dismissed at one time in the belief that Sir Andrew would not be available for. the charge. Endowed with long and varied experience of administration in Malaya. Sir Andrew will move only "a little higher up the street" in assuming his new post He has hosts of friends in the Far East and they will warmly congratulate him on his selection. He will be 51 on Saturday, so, in wishing him many happy returns, Hongkong wilt bbe able to declare that the Governor-designate' is fully equipped for the duties devolving upon him. His experience is rich and his age not too great to encourage indifference to the problems awaiting him for solution.
