School teachers are being register ed with the Committee, and a date will be set later for the examination of these applicants to teach the Ilterate Chinese characters. After teacher has been appointed to his districts, he will make a house-to-house visit to ascertain the number of the illiterates to be under his care. All the policemen have been instruct-fed to assist these teachers so that the Investigation may be completed within period of three weeks.
The Bureau of Education has pre pared special text books. It is the aim of the Committee to make every Ullterate read and write at least the 4600 commonly used Chinese characters ina few months.
Special editions in favour of the movement were published by the Chinese newspapers last Wednesday, while Jantern slides bearing on the mov ment were shown in the Chinese cinemas. Speeches were also broadcast during the day.
