I will now say a few words on how the replanting scheme, outlined in my speech two years ago, has pro-grossed during the year. I am glad to say the young trees in the 1937 crea have made excellent progress, and appear strong and healthy Routine manuring with chemical fertilizer has been regular carried out and this replanting has made a very satisfactory start.
A further 56 acres were undertaken on Hendra Estate during 1933, the planting up being completed in December. Budded stumps of three selected clones were used, two of which were provided from our own nursery, and the other acquired from a nearby Estate.
It was very unfortunate that the planting-out-period happened to coin-with a spell of extremely dry weather, a most abnormal occurrence for the closing months of the year. This caused a loss of some 25 per cent. of the budded stumps, which however will be made good during the current yi Although the loss 1s regrettable, it is one which could not be avoided and will not detract from the ultimate value of the replanted area.
