Estates Satisfactory

It is intended during the present year to replant 53 acres on Hendra and a small spareely-planted lot of 5% acres on Dominion, which continues our programme of gradually replacing areas, which are uneconomic, with new trees from the best available planting material known. Of the mature areas, I have little to say except to remark that on both Estates these are in a generally satisfactory condition. However, in spite of every core, we continue to lose old trees from root disease and, as the value of a field of rubber depends mainly upon its yield per acre, th s of trees in these old folds, is a slow diminishing factor which emphasizes the importance of ovr replanting programme.

The estate buildings are in good serviceable order and present a very tidy appearance. On Dominion, six 4-roomed "cottage" lines of a modern type were completed during the year, and on Hendra a combined Dispensary and School was erected, all of which will be useful additions to the estate buildings and will help considerably in enabling the estate to keep a permanent and contented labour staff always available.
