London, Aug. 27.
'The Air Ministry is permitting: exemption from the oficial regulations governing the manufacture of aircraft, and from the usual certification of airworthiness, the ultra-light aeroplane, British Drone, now in course of' construction.
Gonditions of this exemption are similar to those applied recently in the case of the Flying Flea, namely, the machine may not be flown outside Great Britain and northern Treland, nor over-populous areas, nor may' it carry passengers, freight or mails, nor perform aerobatics, and it must' be covered by a minimum third-party insurance of £5,000.
This concession is regarded as the result of the report early last ye of the Gorell Committee on Civil Aviation, and it is anticipated that exemption may be extended in the near future to machines carrying up to five passengers, though not to Fegular air-transport craft.
Tt is expected that freedom from the regulations will enable manufacturers to reduce the cost of machines by 25 per cent, without sacrifice of efficiency or safety.
Permission can only be exceptional pending legislation to give effect to the recommendations of the Gorell Committee which the Government thas accepted, including the constitution of a joint advisory committee of Lloyds "Register and the British Corporation Register as a statutory autonomous body to contro! the air-Worthiness and compulsory third-arty insurance—of aeroplanes Wireless through Reuter.
