Guns, Cavalry Landed Haifa, July 25.
To avoid incidents during the night, which might result in a massacre, the cruiser, H.M.S. Repulse has landed light guns and a number of horses for mounted patrols.
The whole city of Haifa and its suburbs are kept illuminated by projectors on board this war vessel, so that military operations are facilitated and patrols have iheir task made easier. The light guns landed today are now posted at crossroads and various strategic points.
Realism Added to British Naval Exercises Towards the close of the afternoon, the comparative quiet reigning until then was suddenly shattered as Arabs staged several acts of reprisals against Jews in the streets. Two Jews were stoned to death, bringing the Jewish death toll here to four since the break of day.
This morning, a bomb explosion caused injuries to seven unfortunates, and since then, a number of these have died, bringing the toll of fatalities to 50.. Furthermore, several of the 50 cases in serious condition are declared to be hopeless.
All vessels which were supposed to make port here today, were requested to make detours and put in at Tel Aviv instead. The aeroplane plying regularly between Haifa and Egypt was forced to abandon its flight to this city.
The incidents here were not alone, for they roused again to fever pitch the simmering trouble-makers throughout Palestine. As a result, in the Tiberiad region, three Jews were killed and seven were injured.
The Colonial Guard has now been reinforced throughout the land and a new battalion of' British troops has established garrison quarters in Jerusalem.—Havas.
