Front Our Own Comesrowoerr

Sungkiang, Nov. 26.

In spite of disturbing news and the wild rumours that have been Jgolng about, Sungkiang has been making progress. New houses have been built and are being built and improvements made. Forty yeas ago, not so very long ago, it was joommer to see many vacant lots slong the main street, now from east to west a distance of nearly two miles, one sees very few. The other day, T saw a mound that had acy cumulated on a lot, being moved away and it will not be long until another house will be going up.

All this shows that China still has 'a good bit of reserve strength and that it {s going to be pretty hard to keep her down. The farmers are lousy getting the rice reaped and housed. They have had good weather for this, and the more energetic ones have their crops under cover. 1 not think that the farmers in this section will have anything of which to complain.

Work has been progressing steadily: fon the road connecting the North Gate with the New East Gate. This will allow busses from Siking to come Tight to the main station outside the West Gate. It will not be long now until a road goes from Siking to the Hunglao Aerodrome and then Sung-Kiang still will be more of a suburb jot Shanghai. Then too in a short time there will be a road from Siking. to Zose and the many guests, who come here on. their way to that mountain, then will take this shorter jsoute and Sungkiang will be slighted. Progress is not made without running Jafoul the wishes of many, there has been a bit of trouble in building this road from the North Gate to the New East Gate. Houses have been run into, some have had to come Jdown and some have had a part of their fronts taken down. It required good deal of effort to get this right fof way, but now all questions have been settled and the work soon will be finished. 'The promoters of this road have gotten many a hard name and doubtless many on the way will feel that they have been badly dealt ith, but another generation will Took' upon the builders as public benefactors.
