Daten, July 6.
Although there are twenty primary schools in Dairen with a total enrollment of 19,527 pupils, the Civil Ao ministration Ofice here has applies to the Kwantung Distict Government for permission to build three more such schools in this elly next yer The reason is that the authorities estimate there will be upwards of 4,050 pupils newly enrolling when the school year opens next year.
In view of the fact that the majority of these schools are Japanese while the Japanese population is only afew points above 20 per cent, of the total density, educational facilities for Japanese children in Dairen are generally conceded far above the average obtaining in other cultural centres, The population of Dairen is predominantly Chinese, There are three times-more appliants for admission to the secondary schools than there are places for them and a movement has been on foot for the past few years to increase the number of more advanced schools.
The Japanese are also encouraging Chinese children to attend schools and are offering them buildings, An effort is being made to have' more and more of them enroll In higher Japanese schools so that their educa~ tion will be locally obtained instead of in China, MANCHOUKUO DEFORTS,
