Tramway Fares Two Recent Incidents

To the Editor of the "Norpx-Cuina Day News"

Sm—With the public transport overcrowded it is difficult to keep a check on everything, but it appears time to call attention to the behaviour of some of the tramway employees on trolley-bus route No. 24. It has long been noticed that frequently no tickets are given when fates are collected. The money is taken and the passenger is told to wait and is then without either the money or ticket. When the inspector boards the vehicle to check tickets, the conductor denies that the 8 passenger has paid. On Saturday last a countryman was seen to give ten cents without receiving ticket or change. When challenged by the Inspector the conductor argued that the man had not whereupon the Chinese Inspector gave the unfortunate pas-Senger a slap in the face. Another passenger who had given ten cents and was told to wait in response to repeated requests for ticket and change, was also charged with nonpayment by the conductor when the

[the passenger, the conductor Hngpettor demanded the ticket from then abusing the passenger in most insulting language. In addition to this unpleasant experience in front of other passengers, the passenger had to leave without receiving the change due.

Evidently these fellows do not realize that the patrons of the tramways are the lo who find them jobs and pay their wages, and a few lessons in courtesy and respect for the travelling public would perhaps be beneficial. It is appreciated that with the trolley-buses on'this route so much over-loaded, the conductors have a tiring task, but thatis no excuse for incivility.
