The Royal Trip

that the Kuomingtang Flag is China's national emblem, recognized by all civilized nations of the world, and not the "so-called National Flag" as 30 Years IN CHINA puts it.

30 Years iv CHINA is also wrong (and he knows it) when he says that the Kuomingtang Flag was "practically ignored before the hostilities. He pretends to forget that Kuomingtang Flags were hoisted before the hostilities nearly as often as they are now, and that no measures whatsoever were taken by the Settlement and Concession authorities to remove them. So why do they do it now? Is this what is -meant by being neutral? It is only natural for citizens of a country to do what they deem is their right (hoisting their National flag) so as to heighten the moral of their compatriots in days such as these present, when adverse propaganda and enemies are doing their utmost (including the Chungking murders "en masse") to eliminate their National Government Which is still recognized on the face of the earth.

Does 30 Years in Cima know that France has three National Days ie. Joan of Are (sometime this month), 14th of July and Armistice Day (November 11). Therefore 30 'Years' contention that "Not one country in the world has more than one truy National Day," is absurd.

If 30 Years does not like what the authorities of the Settlement and the Concession do or do not do, why does he not go North of the Creek and stay there?

As to what 25 Years IN CHINA and the Kuomingtang Flag hoisters will do, were the Settlement and Concession attacked by the Japanese, I should like to know just what 30 Years will do? He would be perhaps on the other side of the Creek already And finally, I am sure that most people are of my opinion that the Japanese will never attempt to carry such threats as have been alleged by their friend 30 Years, for they certainly have bigger onions to mind To the Editor of the "NonrH-CHiNA Dairy News"

Six—I noticed some pen-pushing in this column over the national flag.

It seems quite obvious that one of the parties quite unreservedly got his wind up in a nightmare of military occupation of the Settlement. He deserves all the sympathies, because he is not the only one who sometimes sinks into a heap of unreasoning terror. But it is to be remembered that the occupation of the Settlement and the Concession is being daily contemplated with or without any flag flying. The flag is Only one of the many charges of larceny brought against the "innocent lamb" who never stole the chicken.

If the might of an allied naval force and the strength of an Anglo-Soviet alliance cannot stop all such nonsense, no amount of appeasement can. The correct attitude is one of strength expressed through a speedy pulling together of the democratic powers. Appeasement only invites imposition and contempt.
