To the Editor of the "Nonrit-Cutwa Day News"
Sm—I should be very grateful if any of your readers would supply me with any details concerning collision in which a British war vessel and an American merchant! vessel were involved. The name of the war vessel I cannot remember, but the merchant vessel was either: the "St Paul" or the "St, Louis,"
chant vessel was making Southamp-_ of American" "Line. The "mer~ ton and met the war vessel bound Out. A collision resulted, the war vessel was badly holed and turned over, many lives being lost. If my memory serves me aright the Court of Enquiry found the war vessel in fault, in that she neither altered course to pass at w greater distance from, the merchant vessel nor reduced speed. The Court laid emphasis on. the danger of vessels of high speed passing close to other vessels without reducing speed, thus causing suction which tended to draw both vessels together and render them, temporarily unmanageable. Any details this case that can be supplied will be most weleomie, especially the names of the vessels concerned. and the approximate date.
