London, July 27, A Liberal amendment to reduce the Foreign Office vote was defeated in the House of Commons to-day by 200 to 143. The vote was subsequently carried by 313 to 138—Reuter.

Following the cancellation by King} Edward of his plans for a holiday fon the French Riviera, it was announced yesterday that' Mr. Stanley Baldwin, "the Prime Minister, had abandoned his plans to go to Aix-les-Bains on Thursday for a holiday and would remain in England.
The coincidence in the change of plans of the King and Mr. Baldwin, together with the emphasis placed on the complexity of the international situation by Mr. Anthony Eden, the Foreign Secretary, in the debate on the Foreign Office Estimates in the House of Commons yesterday, has led to speculation In Parliamentary oircles.
There is a general disposition here to connect the change in Mr. Baldwin's plans with the serious tone of Mr. Eden's speech, particularly" his statement that he had not exhausted the preoccupations of the Government, Ils the general opinion here that hho risks will be taken in any direction for the next few months, In the absence of an official statement, the newspapers agree in ascribe ing his Majesty's decision not to leave for the French Riviera to consideration for the French authorities at a time when their normal responsibil Titles were much increased by providing for refugees from Spain.
It'ls understood that the matter: was the subject of a conversation between King Edward and Mf. Lebrun, the President of France, when they met on Sunday in connection with the unveiling of the Canadian War Memorial at Vimy Ridge, while there was a reference to his Gtajesty's change of plans in a telegram he addressed to M. Lebrun thanking him {for his participation in the ceremony. The telegram read:
"although to my great regret I am obliged to modity my plans for the immediate future, I wish to assure you of the pleasure with which T contemplate further visits to your hospitable country."—Reuter.
