We may sing of the flowers that bloom in the spring—tra-la—but a song cannot adequately describe the wonderful colourings that Mother Nature bestows upon the trees and shrubs in the autumn. The woods are ablaze with colour and new colourful fall flowers appear. Lakes, rivers, and the well known babbling brook seem to reflect these bright colours.
Now, let's consider the type of film to use for autumn colours. For example, suppose you are taking a picture of a bed of fall flowers—some deep orange or red and others dark blue. Ordinary film, not the chrome type, would yield a print in which the brighter coloured flowers would appear darker than the blue ones, though to the eye the orange and red flowers appeared lighter. It would not, in other words, give true colour brightness values in black and white print, With what is known as panchromatic film, however, the true tonal -values in monochrome rendering will be obtained.
