PRIVATE U.S. WHEAT CROP ESTIMATES LOWER

Chicago, July 2.

Five private firms in a composite estimate of the United States winter wheat crop, to-day placed the yield at 642,000,000 bushels, a decline of 7,000,000 trot the estimate of June 1. Damage from black rust was believed io account for the major position of the decline.

The same sources estimated the spring wheat crop at 229.000.000 bushels, unchanged from their June 1 prediction.

At the same time, the Secretary of Agriculture, Mr. Henry A. Wallace, warned to-day that there was great danger of a surplus of wheat next year, enough to depress prices. Following his warning, the Agricultural Adjustmer.t Administration announced that it was continuing the national soil-conservation programme without change.—Ur.ited Press.
