The: "N—C.D.N." Coronation Memorial Fund was yesterday wonderfully lifted out of the doldrums on the warmest day.of the summer hitherto. Some say it was not the heat but the fluidity—of the date—for they argued that yesterday being the seventh day of the seventh month of the thirty-seventh year of the twentieth century was bound to be lucky for the Fund. Anyway four firms gallantly decided "to combine and reach that six-figure mark. So the list to-day. shows $250 from the International Assurance Ca. Ltd, ihe same amount from the Metropolitan Land Ca, Ltd., and $100 each from the International Underwriters Ltd. and Messrs. F. R. Smith & Ca. Ltda. total of $700 which raised the fund past $100,000 to $100,089.54.
That was not enough. Realizing that the last lap of the -Fund required a handsome inauguration, the Eastern - Extension Australasia China Telegraph Ca, Ltd. came down with $1.000, so the path to that final goal of $150,000 is now cleared. With this splendid spurt it, should be possible/for others who have still to subscribe to come along and, have the honour of completing a beneficent Flan, Cheques should be crossed and drawn in favour of the "N.-C.D.N.
