KAYAN CASE AGAIN

IN SOOCHOW

Rehearing of Trial Follows New Evidence Claim Sentenced to death by a lower court, Mao Yung-wu and four other Chinese charged with the murder of Kosaku Kayau a year ago, on Tuesday appeared at the Soochow High Court for a rehearing of their case, the "Shanghai Nippo" reported yesterday.

The new hearing was ordered by Judge Wu Huang-hong on an appeal of the defendants, who claimed to have new evidence in their possession.

Mr. Kayau, 32, an employee of the local office of the Mitsubishi Trading Company, was shot as he was walking along the ill-lit Chi Mei Road, about 20 yards from Dixwell Road. At the-time of the attack, the victim was carrying the son of a friend on his arm and leading a four-year eld girl by the hand.
