Welcome news has been received by Mr. M, Spiegler, secretary of the Shanghai Lawn Tennis Association. By a coincidence letters arrived at about the same time yesterday from both Japan and Tientsin, the former stating that three Japanese university stars will sail from Kobe on July 20 to play in exhibition matches against Shanghai's best, while the letter from the northern port confirmed their intention to entrain for Shanghai on August 3 for the Interport matches.
The news from Japan was a really pleasant surprise as the team wi due to appear in Tientsin before coming here and was not expected until much later in the season, The visiting tennis players are Kuramitsu, of Kwansai University, and Murakami and Tsuruta, both of Keio University. Rumour has it that they are the pick of their respective colleges.
A: special Association meeting has been called for Friday to select a strong opposition for this initial invasion. The Japanese visitors are expected in Shanghai on July 22, and the exhibition matches are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, July 24 and 25 on the Association courts on Avenue Joffre.
