Reduced Telegraph Tolls Requested

Shanghai, Aug. 28.

second petition to the Ministry of Communications, "asking for reduction of telegraphic tolls between China and the United States, has been sent by the Shanghai Chamber of Commerce, the Sino-

American Trade Association, the Shanghai branch of the International Chamber of Commerce, and other organizations.

Comparing the fees charged in China and those in Japan and the Philippines, the petition asked for a cut of 80 per cent. of the existing Chinese rates for a trial period of six months, it. being contended that the rates between China and the United States are higher than those of any other country in the Far East, fand even higher than those between China and Europe. Such exorbitant charges not only impede the expansion of Sino-American trade, but also constitute an obstacle to. the Promotion of international. publicity. "Central News,
