The newly appointed Soviet Ambassador to Germany, M. Constantine Yureniev, formerly at Tokyo, was received by Chancellor Hitler to whom he presented his credentials, The reception took place at the Chancellor's house on the Obersalzberg near Berchtesgarden, In handing over his credentials, the new Ambassador stated, "Taking it for granted that the creation and maintenance of normal relations between Soviet Russia and Germany corresponds to the interests of both states and contributed to the work for general peace, I will devote all my efforts to carrying out this important task. In doing so, I permit myself to reckon with the effective and benevolent support of yourself as well as of your government."

In reply Herr Hitler stated, "It is with satisfaction that I have taken cognizance of your declaration. 1 share your view that such relations between our two countries wil answer the purpose of non-intervention which is more necessary than ever to-day and will thereby correspond to the interests of both countries and contribute to the cause of peace. 1 can therefore assure you that you may count on the necessary support from me and my government in cartying out the task you have set yourself."—Trans-Ocean,
