Maize Crop

The United States maize crop is expected to reach 2,566,221,000 bushels, a total which has been surpassed only three times in the last ten years. Mr. Wallace estimated that domestic and port demand for maize during the keting year which began October 1 will be 2,475,000,000 bushels, compared with a ten-year average of 2,354,000,000. At the same time the Secretary estimated that supplies, including new maize and the October 1 carry over of 320,000,000 bushels will be 2,886,000,000 bushels. Thus the surplus of United States corn will probably be even larger a year from now. The Government loan of 57 cents a bushels was Mr. Wallace's Partial answer to this problem, but it is admittedly only a temporary solution.
