Dr. Wang was followed by Sir Hughe KnalehbullsHugessen, who said:
Tam very much flattered to find myself connected with the opening of {his building. One of the frst things did when I came' to Nanking was to visit, inspect and admire the build ing. Ail that Tecan say is that 1 time in China Is in" cementing friendship and under~ standing between on two countries as this Association's building will be.
"Dr. Wang Shih-chieh mentioned one or two tates which synchronize and T would like to mention another. T'think it is avery hoppy augury for the Association that its opening falls on the same day as the Chinese New Year. New Year's Day ways isa day of good hopes and resolutions, new ideas, new. resolu tions. end new prospects. Therefore we should feel all the more encour aged in -wishing good luck to the Assoctation, "Lam quite sure that these good wishes will be realized because the Association does @ very useful work in a large fold and on fertile sell It Is a work with which we all sympathize and in which we all wish to end a helping hand. We need only come here and cast our eyes on this Very attractive and interesting build Ing to realize how much care and thought has been expended upon it. We are sleeply grateful to the Board of Trustees for the Administration of the "British Indemnity Funds who made this building possible and to the Ministry of Education and the Waichiaopu who have been provide ing the funds which are going to enable us to continue.
'A Mappy Choice think it is @ particularly happy choice whish decided upon a building of English architecture and in partiular, an Ezabethan building. "Here are in China and the idea of the 'Association is to connect Chinese and British ideas. It is necessary to have import into China the British side of the work. Ifa building of Chi-hose architecture had been put up, this object would not have been fully' realized, and in fact, there might have been the danger that the Asso-lation would become less Sino-British and rather Sino-Chinese. But as His, an admirable building has been consirueted and I think heavy praise and thanks are due to the architects, Mr. Chen and Mr. Li, who. would not have been familiar' with English architecture from the beginning but who have been prudent in taking advice and hints from those who could "The planning of the construction was taken care of by a committee of five which comprises of Messrs. Shi Yin, Chang Tao-fan, A. P. Blunt, Cheng Tien-hsi, and Han'Lifewu. A housing committee consisting of Messrs. Chang Pin Chuin, K.
