King Spans U.S. History

Washington, June 10.

King George spanned American history from the birth of the nation to the Great War yesterday when he laid wreaths on the tomb of George Washington, first President of the United States, and the tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

A 21-gun salute honoured the King and his party as they arrived at Arlington National Cemetery for the ceremonies at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Later the King and Queen laid wreaths on the nearby Canadian Cross in the presence of American Army veterans and 10,000 residents of Washington.

At Int. Vernon the King had earlier reverently laid a wreath on the tomb or George Washington, the rebel leader whom King George's great-great-great grandfather, George III, wanted to hang.

Their Majesties rose early yesterday and enjoyed an American breakfast served in their rooms. Later they were presented to correspondents during Mrs. Roosevelt's press conference.
