Mount Toling Captured

Japanese troops hammering at the Chinese lines in the Tehan and Tapieh "Mountain sectors, respectively south and north of the Yangtze, advanced their positions yesterday with the capture of the summit of Mount Toling and the defeat of a Chinese force entrenched on Titeushan, Domei reports from the fronts claimed.

Shock troops, handicapped by the steepness of the incline, forced their way to the summit of Mount Toling, which lies just south of the highway Jeading to Tehan from Aikow.

The victory on Titeushan was scored by troops attacking Changchukiyuan, termed the second important gateway to the Tapieh range which commands the Shahcheng-Macheng Highway.

Chinese troops on the height, which rises on the southern side of Changchukiyuan, were routed after ten hours of bitter fighting which commenced on Friday night.

The Japanese raised the Rising Sun flag over the peak in a drizzling rain and began a fresh assault on the next line and a pursuit of the retreating, Chinese, the Domei reports stated.
