Barcelona Scorns Mediation

Sr, Negrin Denounces — Nationalist Foreign

Troop Withdrawals Barcetona, Oct. 14.

The idea of mediation was emphatic cally rejected tonight by Sr. Juan Negrin, Republican Premier, who stated in a broadcast speech that there could be no cessation of hostilities so long as there were foreign combat ants fighting with the Nationalists.

Emphasizing that non-intervention was "a farce masking foreign intervention and strangling Spain," Sr. Negrin said that the Republicans "will more admit a new farce, that of the alleged withdrawal of foreign volunteers by Burgos."

The Nationalists, he asserted, would merely send away the injured and sick soldiers.

"Let not the foreign friends of Franco think they will strangle us through so-called mediation. We will only admit mediation between Spaniards, We would rather be: exterminated than consent to the disintegration of Spain!"

Sr. Negrin concluded with the declaration that peace in Spain may be restored only through a plebiscite which would result in the establishment of a strong government.—Havas.
